"George and Sim" has been a name associated with the Port of Melbourne ever since 1923, when Captains Stanley Sim and George Moira commenced a Marine Surveying business at the bottom end of Queen Street. This partnership was first incorporated in 1975, and after a restructure George & Sim Marine Surveyors Pty. Ltd. was formed in 1998 in order to maintain this proud name in the Maritime Industry. As a privately owned marine surveying company based in the Port of Melbourne, it aims to provide a detailed, personalised and quality service to the commercial shipping industry. George & Sim Marine Surveyors provides services to the major carriers servicing the trades from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Special areas of interest include vehicle
transport, pre-shipment inspections, securing of project cargoes
(on flatracks and on board), container and vessel inspections,
including damage, spillage, contamination and shortages, for ship
owners, charterers, cargo interests and insurance companies. OUR
CLIENTS Major Shipping Lines such as Hamburg Sud, Mitsui-OSK, and NYK, various P & I Clubs, Stevedores and Terminal Operators, Freight Forwarders and international Underwriters. STAFF
RESOURCES Captain Bosman became a Surveyor after 12 years seagoing experience on general cargo vessels. He joined George & Sim in 1976 and has been the firm's manager since 1979. His expertise lies in general cargo damages, pre-shipment inspections, marine casualty and insurance work. During his 35 years as Surveyor he has worked on several major marine disasters, on a wide variety of import and export cargoes, both containerised and in bulk. In the majority of these cases he has been representing the interests of the Shipping Lines, but can equally be relied on to represent Cargo Interests or their Underwriters. Captain Bosman is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors, an Honarary Member of the Company of Master Mariners, a Member of the Nautical Institute, and an Associate of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand. Peak Work Flows For large volume
work we can access a network of company trained casual staff,
including Master Mariners, with suitable experience and integrity
to provide on going high quality service to our clients. Through
alliances with other reputable surveying companies we can provide
services around Australia. Our charges recognise the time, level of expertise required, travelling involved and any technical procedures that may be required. Quotes and fees are independent of after
hours or public holiday work and include travelling time and
local, national and international telephone and other
communication charges. Work is billed at the completion of each
project. Our terms are 30 days. HEALTH AND
